Filming Blog

When we walked into the class, it was a little chaotic. It was our only day to film our scenes and there wasn't time to play around. Before we even got our camera, we needed to fix one of my group mate's previous blog which would affect all of our grades. We finished helping him then went to receive our camera. Although I was expecting better quality, it did still function as a camera. We received the camera, the SD card, and the tripod bag. We also were supposed to sign out and get a pass but none of us heard to do so. When we went to the track we were kind of set back due to the fact that we didn't have the plate that connected the camera to the tripod. After getting that back we finally started working on our commercial. The time to film was upon us.

Our group chose to do a commercial for Nike. In our storyboard, we planned on doing four sports and then a Gatorade bottle scene then close it out. Unfortunately, we were unable to complete two of the six scenes. Instead, we just replaced them with a different scene but still represented Nike. So like we planned, we recorded the track scene, the football scene, and a basketball scene. To make up for not doing the soccer or Gatorade scene, we added an actual "Just Do It" scene and another basketball dribbling scene. We had many takes as we had to edit how we wanted our scene to be filmed. And in every scene, you can see a Nike accessory on at least one of us. We included a Nike headband, Nike shoes, and Nike socks. We could've added more Nike products to see what we're representing.

After the whole filming process, I was relieved that we got all of our scenes recorded and dumped onto a computer. The dumping portion was the easiest part. All we had to do was get an SD card reader, insert our SD card, and then move our films from the SD card onto the computer. Just in case our files got deleted I uploaded the folder onto Google Drive. This will also come in handy for the editing part if I want to work on it at home. I feel like this was actually kind of fun to do. Although there was a lot of stress making a commercial with my friends is exciting. My favorite part was being in the video recording my basketball crossover. And with the experience, my group has in editing the next portion shouldn't really be that difficult either. On to editing and finishing up our commercial.

Editing: The Commercial Blog

In today's class we were told to upload our commercial clips onto google drive and remove it off the computer. After I uploaded the clips I shared it to my group mates so they can work on editing at home. Aridsondez went home and edited the background music into the first clip. Unfortunately Pinnacle Studios wasn't working so we couldn't start on the editing process. But as a group we've come up with a plan on our general idea of what we're going to do on the editing part. We're going to do fade transition into other clips. We're also going to do black screen cut in's to give inspirational quotes. Hopefully the next class the software will work. But if it doesn't work we'll be forced to do the editing portion at home. I think everything will come together in the end.

I've always seen people I know edit videos and I've done editing with my small dance clips with my friend said prior. I'm assuming that it won't be that hard to actually accomplish. Depending on how my group mates are feeling that day we can actually get a lot of work done. We as a group joke around a little too much. But when we're focused we can actually get a lot of progress done and if we work on it at home it'll be perfect. I'm just scared that our finished product will look bland and boring. The next class period we'll be a productive one. If we aren't arguing the entire time. But we work together on each individual blog to see what happened that class. I feel like blogging is a good way to keep track of our progress.

Storyboard Blog

We decided to make a Nike commercial. Like a typical Nike commercial, we chose to involve a couple of sports. In order, we’ll record track, football, soccer, and basketball. Then to finish one of us will do a bottle flip with a Gatorade bottle then will tilt to a pair of Nike shoes. The ending will jump cut to a black screen that says “Nike, Just Do It”. Each scene will have its own flare to it. We’ll get the different sports balls from the gym. And we're playing on having the most athletic one out of us do most of the scenes. I'll probably end up doing the actual recording. The recording is the last step and hopefully, our commercial comes out alright.

The first scene will pan from the sun to an extreme close up of the runner that takes off immediately. In the second scene, we're going to try and get a slow-motion shot of a football being thrown. The next scene is the soccer one that has one of us kicking the ball into the goal. And the last scene will be one of us doing a crazy dribble move in basketball. Then the last two scenes are added at the end to finish it.

Editing Lesson Blog

Today's lesson was on filming and editing and for our commercials the software we're using to edit is called Pinnacle Studios. Before filming can even start we need to bring in a form signed by our parents to use the computers and cameras. The “Video Equipment Sign Out Agreement” sheet and the blue form are needed to even started filming. Once these are turned in, someone from the group has to go get the camera and set it up. Each camera has a bag that it goes in and everything in that bag belongs to that bag number. Each camera has an SD card that keeps all the data and is later used in the editing process. The camera also comes with a tripod to hold the camera still and while the camera is on it you can pan, tilt, and dutch. To set up the tripod your going to need to extend the legs by turning the levers. Then you have to connect the camera to the tripod by taking off the plate and screwing it into the bottom of the actual camera. Having the tripod is going to be really useful when you need to zoom in or have a steady take.

During the editing process you're going to take the SD card with your takes and dump it onto the computer. To do so you have to actually take out the SD card and insert it into the computer. Next you'll open up Pinnacle Studios but you'll need to be patient. If you try to use the files to edit while the software is still loading, it’ll crash the computer and you'll have to start all over again. To know when the software is ready, there'll be an orange bar that will turn green and you'll have to wait till it is entirely green. Once it's loaded you can now drag and drop your clips into the track. The editing process can now start and your commercial will start to come together. Using your raw footage you can add sound effects, voiceovers, and other things like clean edits.

Planning Blog

The industry we will base our commercial is on Nike's. The props we will be using is a basketball, Nike accessories, a football, and hurdles. Our costumes will involve Nike shoes, a Nike headband, Nike socks, and shorts. First day, we will set up all our props around in there specific areas that accommodate that certain sport.

We'll planning on filming all of our outside activities first in case the weather isn't good. The focus of each scene is going to me the Nike shoes at first the when the actor says "Just do it" then focus will change according to the sport. We're going to start with track using the hurdles that are already there. We going to using a low camera angles as one of us says "Just do it" then runs and jumps over the hurdle. Then we'll planning on going on the football field to record a football being thrown then track it while it's in the air and edit it to be in the air for a little longer. We're going to the soccer field to record the ball being kicked into a goal. Then we're going to try to head into the gym to film a crossover to get past the defender to make a shot. To finish the commercial we're going to edit in a black background with text that says "Nike, Just Do It."

For our backup plan, in case of rain we're going to film in a outside around with a roof or film in front of the big staircases. If someone is absent we're just going to power through and pick up their slack. In any unexpected case we'd adjust our schedule to still film with the people that are there, with no delay. If we can't get our props will either change what we'll film to fit that sport.

Introduction

Hello I'm Marckins and I'm a student in the Fort Lauderdale Cambridge program. This is my second year at the school and first year taking Aice classes. I'm taking Aice Media, Aice Global Perspectives, and Aice General Paper. I've heard everyone talk about how difficult and stressful Aice classes are and I haven't been struggling as much as I thought I would. I've made a lot of friends and I have a pretty good time at school. I'm also apart of the band program and I play the trumpet. This takes up most of my time and is really tiring but when performing at a football game or playing against another band, it's really exhilarating. Hopefully in the next two years I get even better at playing the trumpet and do better in school.
At home I really find myself relaxed the most. I have my alone time and I can catch up on all of my shows that I keep up with. After school I usually go home, watch YouTube videos or anime, then go eat and watch YouTube videos, them go back to watching either YouTube videos or anime. It's around 7 or 8 at night that I'll go do whatever assignment I have to do. I also like playing games although I don't play a lot of games. The games I play are usually either Brawlhalla or Minecraft. I also play the guitar and I'm trying to get better at that, so I find songs I like to listen to and learn how to play it on my guitar. The songs I listen to consist of Rap, Hip-Hop, and RnB. My favorite artist are Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole and Anderson Paak. I also might decide to produce a beat using Fl Studio on my computer. This is my daily routine that I subconsciously follow.
Although I'm in highschool, I'm the youngest of three boys and I live in a household of four. I have two older brothers that are ages 20 and 23. One of them are in college and attends FAU and the other is a college graduate of UCF. Only one of them lives in the same house as me while the other lives in Orlando. My parents are the other two that live and pay for the house. My mom is a worrywart and can sometimes be clumsy but she does love me and my brother's. My dad on the other hand is usually serious and can sometimes be scary but he does provide the most for the family. They're both of Haitian origin and want to go back to Haiti after me and my brother's are self efficient. When were all together we're always laughing and making new memories.
